Jonas Boboma Mionzo was born in 1964 in Bodzeka, Congo-Brazzaville. He completed his primary and secondary education in Brazzaville before beginning university studies. In 1987, he was advised to pursue formal training at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa (École Saint-Luc), where he studied until 1990.

Throughout his career, Boboma has taken part in numerous group and solo exhibitions, notably the Abidjan Arts Biennale in 1993. In 1994, he received the Grand Prize of CICIBA (International Center of Bantu Civilization), marking the 4th edition of the award. He was later invited to Paris in 1996 for a residency at the Viduc Academy of Arts.

Boboma lives and works in Brazzaville, where he also manages a screen-printing studio. His early period is defined by a focus on pure aesthetics, free from sacred or utilitarian references. These works reveal a captivating mastery of brushstroke and an enchanting use of color, where the eternal feminine is celebrated and elevated. His forms and palettes are bold and generous, his figures sumptuous, with a sensuality that rises effortlessly from the canvas. He is also known for painting striking and elegant representations of animals.

Over time, Boboma’s practice evolved toward compositions in which psychological, philosophical, and social messages take precedence. Today, his work gravitates increasingly toward religious symbolism, marking a new chapter in his artistic journey.
